Remembering the Joy of Simple Things

Those were the days

When there were no mobile phones

Electric power used to go off

And water sometimes got cut off

We knew the value of things

Because, of course, we couldn't afford to waste.

For the next generation to survive,

We had to save!

A single TV united the household

Everyone could still watch what they want,

News, Cartoons or TV soaps,

Because there were fixed channels, timings and shows!

We never got bored

Because we had mastered the art

of entertaining ourselves with old sarees, kitchen sets, board games,

Whatever we could find, and we just had to start!

On homemade food we thrived

and even without choices, never felt deprived.

We loved the rain and sunshine

Outdoor was mostly where we spent our time.

Occasional ice cream, chaat or sandwich outside

was enough to make us happy

A Dairy Milk or Crackle,

A rare bubblegum and some Maggi!

Somewhere we got lost in the world of smartphones and OTT

AI has taken over and there's no feeling of normalcy

Social media took over the boredom that led to creativity,

The art, craft and cooking experiments are now limited to watching reels.

Let's go back to the good old times

When calling and talking to friends was a favourite pastime,

When the little joys mattered,

And everything that is boring today was the best time of our life.
